Greek Gyro

While at UCSD, I was walking around looking for something to eat for lunch. As I

walked into the Price Center I saw Panda Express, Burger King and Grilled Greek. I

have not had a Gyro in awhile so I thought to myself, “Why not, Greek food would be

something good and different.” When I ordered the Gyro plate I chose seasoned

French fries and rice for my side orders. It also came with Greek bread which was

cut up into four triangles and Greek meat. I could not tell whether the Greek meat

was either pork or beef, but it was delicious because each bite of it consisted of

a peppery meaty taste. It is the best way I can describe it.

Also, when I was ordering I thought it was interesting that Hispanic people

were cooking and severing me Greek food. I have never met a Greek person in my life

so maybe the people working behind the counter were Greek, but one thing is for sure

though is that they spoke Spanish pretty fluently. It just makes me wonder if I was

eating authentic Greek food because all the Greek food I have tried so far were from

either the dining hall at Cal State Long Beach or from little restaurant in shopping

malls severed by people who identify themselves as Greek during work hours.

When a different ethnicity serve another ethnicity type of food one thing

pops into people minds, “I am not eating authentic food.” Since people are thinking

they are not eating authentic food the business of the restaurant will go down the

drain. People want to eat different authentic food from other cultures because they

want to experience what other people eat in their daily lives. Only when ethnicity

serves different types of food within their own culture is when people will think it

is authentic food.

For example, having a Hispanic person serving orange chicken from Panda Express will

make people question the authenticity of the food. But having an Asian person is a

different story. It would not matter if that Asian person is Japanese, Chinese,

Vietnamese, and maybe even an Indian could pass severing orange chicken from Panda

Express and people will think it genuine Asian food. As long as it appears correct

people will buy into it.

All and all, my experience at Grilled Greek has been fantastic because I

have always loved biting into that peppery meat. Even though, I do not have anything

else to compare it to. The service of the place was great and I had no problems with

the workers. Just one thing to keep in mind when ordering food is that food of a

certain culture served by a different ethnic maybe not be authentic.

LW Pizza

Today, I ate pizza in the dining hall and it tasted like anything other

pizza, nothing special. As I was filling my stomach with unsatisfying slices of

pizza, I kept thinking of the delicious pizza I had a few night ago from LW pizza.

At 11 o’ clock, my friend came rushing into my room saying, “Hey, let’s get some

pizza right now,” I was all for it, but I was not too sure if anything pizza places

was opened late at night. But sure enough my friend says, “Yeah, LW Pizza opens

until 12 AM” and I was like “Sweet!” We ordered two 16 inch pizza with two toppings

on each for only 25 dollars. One pizza had the pepperonis and pineapples and the

other had pepperonis and sausages. When we got back to the dorms, the first bite I

took out of the pizza was fantastic. It was overwhelmingly greasy, but I enjoyed the

flavor because I think the grease enhance the ingredients.

LW Pizza being opened during late hours is a smart idea because having to be

near a college campus will attract plenty of business. College students are always

staying up late doing homework, partying or probably just wasting time doing

something useless. When clock passes that certain time late at night, I assure you

that 9 out of 10 students who are awake are starving out of their minds. Another

reason that customers are attracted to LW Pizza is that people can taste the quality

of the pizza. Most of their pizzas are thin crusted. The fresh ingredients on the

pizza such as diced pineapples and clean cut pepperonis are more noticeable and

tasteful. Customers can enjoy the favors on the pizza rather than getting lost

inside the crust. A general reason people love to order pizza is because they can

practically put any toppings they want on the pizza. Toppings such as anchovy, green

peppers, olives, bacon, tomato, garlic, ham onion mushroom, chicken, and there are

tremendous amounts of toppings out in the world that I cannot name them all. The

idea of creating something of your own has been always been attracting society.

Overall, my first experience with LW Pizza has been great so far and I plan

to go back real soon. I recommend anyone who wants to try good quality pizza go to

LW Pizza because their service is great and the ingredients that they use are fresh

and can actually be tasted. My friends and I enjoyed the pizza very much that they

plan to make LW Pizza a weekly event, which is great. I can enjoy good quality

greasy pizza every week now!

Chipotle - A Higher Quality of Mexican Food

I just woke up from a food coma I had from eating Chipotle. I see Chipotle as a

higher class of Mexican food because the environment of the restaurant is pleasant

to be in, it’s well lit, and there are chairs for the customers to sit inside the

restaurant. As oppose to the regular Mexican stands or trucks where the location are

not in the best location in the world and a customer’s option of seats at night are

sitting on sidewalk in the cold or sitting in the car with the heater on. I can see

people choosing Chipotle over authentic Mexican food because the atmosphere is

better, quality of the food looks better, and customers can custom make their own

burrito.

I love Chipotle because they allow customers to make their unique type of burrito.

It’s like a Subway, but for burritos. I ordered steak burrito. The lovely cilantro

lemon rice is the first ingredient that they add to the burrito and it is amazing.

Coming from a Asian family that eat plain old rice everything makes rice seem little

boring, but when I tried the cilantro lemon rice from Chipotle for the first time it

was like rice and ecstasy mixed together. Then additional ingredients were added to

complete my burrito such as black beans, marinated steak, fresh tomato salsa, green

chili-salsa, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese, and romaine lettuce. Altogether, it

became a fulfilling and satisfied meal to eat.

This craze of custom making your own food has really caught on today. For example,

say someone did not like black beans so they still have an option of choosing pinto

beans or no beans at all. Another option Chipotle offers is having guacamole with

your burrito. Even though, I did not choose to have it this time other customers

also have the option to having their burrito with or without it. Ultimately, what

I’m trying to say is that Chipotle offers the element of picking and choosing the

different kinds of ingredients to satisfy different customer’s preferences.
