Home Cook Food

Home cook food has different meanings for everyone. What it means to me is the family sitting around the table trying to have a comfortable conversation with each other without having to tear each other throats out. Anyways, there are always three main elements to our family dinner: rice, soup, and a main dish. During my childhood, I hated eating at the table with the family at dinner time because I eagerly wanted to watch my Power Puff Girls cartoons while having dinner. Also as a kid, I’ve always wanted to be like those Americans family like the ones I saw on television with their plate stand, which held their food, in the living room eating their meal and watching dinner at the same time. But as I get older I started to realize that eating with my parents is very important because it’s not always going to be there.

My dad was the fabulous cook of the family. My all time favorite dish that he made occasionally during my childhood was the sweet and sour chicken. I loved that plate so much! It was one of the memorable things from my childhood. The chicken was sliced up into bitable size then pepper and salt was added to give it more of a lively flavor. Next, it would be hand powdered in flour, so that when it was fried it will have that crispy taste to it. But what made me really love the dish was the sweet and sour sauce. Oh my god, Mr. Tsuyuki you’re so right. The sauce had tiny amount of vinegar which you couldn’t taste at all, diced green onions, smashed oranges which made the majority of the sauce, and sliced pineapples. I remember which eat bite I had it had to be with a slice pineapple. It was delicious. It brings back memories and makes me want to become a kid again. I’d always thought I would be a kid forever.

These home cook meals we have with our families is important because it’s the one time out of the day that we spend quality time with each other. Where we share our daily experiences and make those key moments that we will remember for a life time. Even though I had it all my life, every time I drive back home I still enjoy eating rice and my dad’s cooking because it’s one of those things that will always be a part of me.

Sushi For Sushi

Today, I went to eat the a kind of food that I think that nine out of ten people will have this kind of food as their top three food to eat. Sushi, I don’t think or recall ever hearing anyone saying, “I hate sushi, it’s the nastiness thing in the world”. Since I haven’t had sushi in awhile that first bite of T.N.T roll I had was amazing. It was like the first time I heard the Beatles. Excuse me. I’m getting a little ahead of myself right now. Sushi tends to be people favorite food because it’s not a part of most people’s daily diet. Being bite sizes and made easy to eat makes it amazing. People can either devour their California Roll in one bite or bite a quarter of it and savior that mouth-watering crap meat.

My friends and I were eating at a locate sushi restaurant that’s very close to Cal State Long Beach called Niko Niko Sushi. If you never heard of the place before it’s in the same shopping center as Ralph, Yogurt Land and Cha For Tea, which is on the 7th and Bellflower. I never eaten there before, but it was a good experience. What makes sushi appealing to most people is because there are several different varieties of sushi. Some made with just chewy raw meat and sticky rice, but the more extravagant ones are made to attract the customers like a pretty walking down the street trying to make money. Besides the sushi, there’s orange fish eggs, tiny green onions, watery pink shrimps, white mayonnaise, and blackish brown soy sauces all combine together to create a fantastic sushi dish that attracts called the T.N.T. I’ve forgotten how many different kinds of sushi dishes there are, but Niko Niko Sushi had some dishes I had never heard before such as Hungry Roll, Sexy Salmon, Dragon Roll, Funky Roll, and several more. I wish I could have tried all of their forty-one different kinds of dishes, but it would have been too expensive for my wallet.

That’s another thing about sushi; it’s pricier than other foods out there. My dish cost about ten dollars which is reasonable for sushi, but if I were to pick the restaurant I’ve would have picked Onami sushi because it’s all you can eat and I love all you can eat. It’s about sixteen dollars for lunch and twenty dollars for dinner, which I think is a great price for a sushi buffet. At this instant, I don’t actually know the reason why it’s so expensive. I can assume several possibilities such as the seafood that they buy is high quality, it’s made for presentation and taste, or maybe because customers love it so much that they can rack up the price and make a killing off of it.

Well, the sushi I ordered was delicious. It was a T.N.T roll that consisted of shrimp tempura, California rolls and special sauce. When the dish came out it had 7 rolls and I was surprise how full I’ve gotten off of it because it was gone in two seconds. I really enjoyed it. My friend had my second choice which was the Hungry Roll. When it came out the rolls were in single filed line and placed on top of aluminum foil. The aluminum foil was only there to hold it together because it was huge. It had Unagi (eel), avocado, crab meat, cucumber, salmon, and fried shrimp tempura, which I think was amazing how they presented that dish.

Overall, I had good time eating sushi once again. Niko Niko Sushi’s atmosphere was very pleasant and enjoyable because the displays were well put together having the usual Japanese sculpture, symbols placed on the walls, and the furniture that gives a Japan feel to it. People are attracted to Nkio Niko Sushi because they can experience a delicious part of Japanese culture without having to travel too far for it.

Frozen Greatness

Every couple of years people are looking for new ways to satisfy their taste buds with different types of foods, deserts, or drinks. First there was boba. Honey dew milk tea, slushy almond milk tea, and etc. Then there was crepe, a thin slice of pancake folded into a shape of a cone holding delicious fruits such as mangos, strawberries, and kiwis together with the classic vanilla ice cream and topped off with whip cream. And today, the new rage is frozen yogurt or as the cool kids like to call it, “fro-yo”. We seem to be falling into different kinds of food treads every so often. Is it because our lives are plain and boring and we jneed that little taste of excitement in our lives? Or can it be that we are tired of the everyday menu and that we just want to try something new. Whatever the reason might be, there is no doubt that we do find ourselves caught up in these food treads every couple of years.

Today, frozen yogurt has been the number one dessert to eat. One of the reasons we allow ourselves to eat this frozen greatness is because we heard it is healthier than other desserts. Frozen yogurt is made from yogurt rather than cream, which is why people see frozen yogurt as a healthier treat to eat. I’m sure most people do not know the actual details why yogurt is better than cream, therefore people just believe what they hear so they can enjoy eating frozen yogurt without feeling guilty.

Frozen yogurt has become such phenomenon that there are endless flavors to choose from. There are several flavors such as green tea, pineapple, raspberry, pomegranate, plain tart (my favorite) and more. With such a variety of favors to choose from there will be a flavor to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. It doesn’t just stop with the several different flavors of frozen yogurt. There are also toppings!

Yes, toppings, tons and tons of toppings. Toppings are one of the major reasons why people go out and buy frozen yogurt. Why just have a frozen yogurt plain and boring when anyone can add practically anything that their taste bud desire to it. The possibilities are endless. There are regular toppings such as cereal and fruits, but there are toppings that are so delicious that I would have never imagined. One of the greatest topping invented for frozen yogurt is bite size cheese cake. Whoever thought of putting frozen yogurt and cheese cake together is a genius.

Also with many different frozen yogurt locations being made people practically can eat it any time they want. There are different types of frozen yogurt places such as Yogurt Land and Sierra Cup. The difference between the two is that one is self serve and the other one is not. I have a friend that use to worked at Sierra Cup, a frozen yogurt place that sells yogurt behind the counter. She says that the non self serve frozen yogurt locations had better quality yogurt than the self serve frozen yogurt location such as Yogurt Land, but that is her opinion and truthfully I can’t actually the difference. People probably do pay a little more for better quality frozen yogurt, but in the end it’s all the same. Having a person serving you frozen yogurt or creating it yourself has really no difference because in the end it is still your ideas that puts together the frozen greatness.

Frozen yogurt having such a variety of flavors and toppings it’s going to be the number one dessert to eat for a while. And as time goes on boba and crepe stores will close down and new stores will open to follow the consumers’ demand, which is frozen yogurt.
